About the insurance

One policy for the dates you choose

Applications for a Schengen visa, a Polish national visa and several types of temporary residence permit require medical insurance. The rules for it come from two sources: the EU Visa Code and Poland’s Act on Foreigners.

The sum insured of our policy is EUR 30,000, and the cover lasts for the whole period you select. You decide whether it applies in Poland or across the Schengen area.

What the rules say

Insurance requirements in the Visa Code and Polish law

For a Schengen visa, the Visa Code asks for travel medical insurance “to cover any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention and/or emergency hospital treatment or death” (Article 15(1)). The cover has to apply in all Member States, with a minimum of EUR 30,000 (Article 15(3)).

For a national visa, Polish law also requires at least EUR 30,000 from a travel medical policy, which has to last for the whole planned stay in Poland (Article 25 of the Act on Foreigners).

Temporary residence permits for work, studies, business or joining a family member also require insurance: either health insurance or a document in which an insurer confirms that treatment costs in Poland are covered.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Short answers drawn from the EU Visa Code and Poland’s Act on Foreigners.

The European Commission counts 29 countries: 25 EU Member States and four others, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The most recent members, Bulgaria and Romania, joined on 1 January 2025.

Yes. The calculator offers two areas of cover, Poland or the Schengen area. Remember that the Visa Code asks for cover valid throughout the territory of the Member States when you apply for a Schengen visa.

EUR 30,000 is the minimum in both cases: the Visa Code requires it for a Schengen visa, and the Polish Act on Foreigners names the same figure for travel medical insurance when you enter Poland on a national visa.

Under the Visa Code it must cover the entire period of the intended stay or transit. For a multiple-entry visa, you show cover for the first intended visit and, in the application form, sign a declaration that you are aware of the need for insurance on later stays.

Once the online payment is complete, you get the policy as a PDF file. With any questions, call our adviser on +48 22 299 11 11.
